Ambassador of Lebanon attends annual reception for the Diplomatic Corps

The Ambassador of Lebanon in Germany, Dr. Mustapha Adib, on June 11, 2014 attended the annual reception for the Diplomatic Corps in Berlin. On this occasion Chancellor Angela Merkel along with Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier welcomed at the Federal Chancellery all ambassadors and representatives of international organizations accredited to Germany.

In her speech, the Chancellor recalled three significant anniversaries commemorated this year: the outbreak of the First World War 100 years ago, the beginning of the Second World War 75 years ago and the fall of the Berlin Wall 25 years ago. The lessons of history are also an obligation to promote peace and freedom, the rule of law and democracy throughout the world, Merkel said.

With reference to the catastrophe in Syria, the Chancellor thanked the neighboring countries Lebanon, Jordan, Turkey and Iraq, which are hosting large numbers of refugees from Syria and she assured that the international community will continue to work diligently to find a solution to this crisis.
